Have drums, will travel
Kat van Groove’s Play with Rhythm workshop: The perfect intro to drumming in community!
After a quick hand-drumming lesson on authentic West African djembe drums, we’ll learn some ancient rhythms, play some rhythm games… and before you know it, you are drumming in community!
Professional facilitator and drumming instructor Kat van Groove is your guide on a rhythmic journey where the focus is on playful experimentation and creating music-in-the-moment. No previous musical experience is necessary.
Why drum together?
- Hand-drumming is an ancient tradition, meant to be done in community
- Creates community
- Enhances your immune response
- Relieves stress
- Inspires a healthy energy exchange (old & tired for new & zazzy!)
- Improves self-confidence
- Connect with yourself and others, non-verbally
What can I expect?
Since 2009, Kat has literally taught hundreds of people to drum in her group drumming sessions and one-time workshops. Kat creates safe & supportive spaces where the best learning experiences take place. Her joyful approach is contagious and you’ll soon find yourself laughing and learning. Not only are you learning to play the West African djembe, you’re learning to play in community, the way the drums are meant to be experienced.
When your hands are ready for a break from drumming, Kat will share her toys. Percussion toys, that is! Kat’s eclectic collection of cowbells, shakers, clavés and clackers will help inspire your group to create unique soundscapes in no time.
Goodbye, stale energy! Hello, new!
Group drumming is an energy exchange. You may arrive tired or head-ache-y but you will leave feeling zazzy and refreshed! Drumming is like life: you get out what you put into it. Kat encourages you to give it your all: to drum a bit harder, play a little louder. And a funny thing happens: the more you put in, the more you get back! In a group drumming workshop, you’ll trade in your old tired energy for new rhythmic energy, and leave refreshed.
